ASGARDIAN'S DAY - Quest For The Troll King - fragment

The wolves seemed to have halted their hunt, instead Hrodger heard a number of lamenting howls, as the still living wolves wept for the passing of their kin. Within minutes they had reached the woods, and Hrodger fell wheezing and panting to his knees.
''Forgive my bad shape, good man. This is the second ill fated encounter I have had today, and the first more than demanded its toll from me.'' Hrodger said between catching his breath.
''I know.'' the cloaked figure merely said.
Hrodger hadn't paid attention to it before, but the voice was soft and elegant like a womans, not the harsh and direct tone a man would speak in.
''And I'm no man,'' she continued, ''my name is Welinde, and I know what you seek.''
''Witch?'' Hrodger asked hesitantly.
''Seeress.'' she corrected him.
Hrodger nodded in approval and took to his feet.
''Then I must ask you, help me once more, good Welinde. I was sent on a quest by my king, to find the lost ruins of Wolfgard, but now I have been poisoned by some spiteful wretch and I must find a cure if I want to finish what I started.''

Hammer Of The Gods - 5th sneak into the upcoming short novel by Wolfgang Hohlbein!!!

He was tired. Incredibly tired. But if he gave in to this feeling and closed his eyes, he would not open them again. And it would not be Odin´s table in Valhalla that would await him on the other side. ...

A good half dozen of the Daugr had been close anough to be smashed by the falling iron mesh. At least two of them were still moving. Even though they had been staked by the rusty irons and pinned into the ground, their fingers still tried with steadfast persistance to crawl towards Torben; a view that reminded Thor in a terrible way of big, dirty maggots, whose human faces and limbs only made it worse. But even more terrifying was what he saw on the other side of the fence. The army of the undead was still there. Dozens, if not hundreds of mute figures with empty eyes and decaying faces pressed against the iron bars, their claws trying to reach him and their rusty spears trying to stab him. ...

And at that moment the cavalry charged into the enemy lines, while the archers aimed at their reserves. The boy now knew what he had to do. He threw away is helmet, his sword and his buckler. He loosened his leather jacket and he charged towards the enemy without any weapon, but also, without any fear. At that moment his infantry squad broke and fled towards him, with chasing enemies on their heels. Thomas duck to the ground pretending to be dead, while his allies and enemies ran past him. And then he looked up and there he stood, the enemies general. Yelling at his soldiers to let them flee and ordering them to rally around him. Thomas saw his chance now. An enormous rage came to him he no longer felt pain or exhaustion. He grabbed a hatched from the ground, stood up and with an enormous force he hurled it at the enemies general. "For thee, Odin!" Then he fell to the ground and fainted.

Thor`s breath caught, when he ducked under the rusty fence and looked towards the ceiling while getting up on the other side of it. The two undead attackers were not the only ones of their kind. The whole grate was full of large, deformed bodies, as if darkness and dust had formed into the sheer incarnation of fear. Like huge, misshaped spiders in an iron net they crawled and scrambled over the rusty meshwork, some of them in a grotesque sideward movement or headfirst, and all of them and without exception, terribly fast. ... Thor hit the first one with his hammer, missed him in his haste, and only blasted some lumps of crumbling rust out of the mesh.
